HALNAKER WINDMILL

This shot is of Halnaker Windmill, built in 1740 by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. It was once painted by Turner and is the oldest surviving mill in Sussex. It stands at 400ft above sea level on Halnaker Hill which is part of the South Downs. During World War II, pilots used it as a navigational aid.
