HOVERFLY
Melanostoma scalare


This particular species of hoverfly is 7-8.5mm long and very slim. It is abundant and widespread. particularly in grassy habitats throughout Britain, but not normally found in mountainous or moorland locations. The larvae attack and feed on aphides and occasionally other insects. The adults feed on pollen and nectar.
