Crosswort
Cruciata laevipes

This shot was taken just outside a small village called Widley in Hampshire. This is common springtime plant which prefers calcareous grassland but can be found on neutral soils as well. The many cruciate yellow flowers around a hairy stem are its distinguishing feature. A decoction of the leaves has been used to treat obstructions of the stomach and bowels, to stimulate the appetite and as a remedy for rheumatism.
