Salad Burnet forms large patches in dry grassland and rocky places and on roadsides. It can withstand maritime conditions and survives well in chalky soil. The leaves of this plant remain throughout the year and are in pairs of tiny, oval leaflets. It flowers from May to August with crimson female flowerheads, followed by the seeds ripening into drooping male stamens with fluffy yellow anthers, from July to September. The young leaves taste and smell like cucumber and can be used in salads.
